If you like great math for kids, check out Math Munch

Math Munch is an amazing internet math magazine for kids. If you’ve not seen it before, check it out now:

The February 5th, 2015 issue of Math Munch

I’m not sure how it is even possible that we’ve not used their material in a Family Math before, but we’ve cured that mistake this evening. We were able to use their latest issue for two really fun activities.

First, we downloaded some of the coloring sheets from the mathematical artist Dearing Wang. Here’s my younger son describing why he picked the sheet he did:

and here is his description of his coloring:

Next up is my older son describing the picture he selected:

and here is his description of what he colored.

The other activity related to 3D printing. Math Munch spoke with another mathematical artist, John Edmark, of Stanford University. Edmark created this amazing video with strobe animation:

Edmark shared some of the 3D printing files for the objects in the video and we printed one of them (the torus appearing around 0:57s in the video) last evening:

So, a fun week using Math Munch with the kids. Please check out their site and share it with everyone you know – and especially any kid you know – who wants to see some fun and exciting math.
